Proc Fiskal - Exchequer

Feb 7th 2025 HDB158D

Proc Fiskal’s new EP - Exchequer explores a happy, sweet spot of electronic music, folk and synthesised classical strings, inspired by both pop music and the ‘utopian idea of the pastoral'. Paring back some of the dizzy details, he lets his best melodies breathe and his beefed up productions gleam, more visibly intersecting Hyperpop and Grime.

His apple mix from a year ago - hints at this direction, acting as a sort of moodboard, marrying his melodic grime influence with lush strings arranged in precise and lovely ways.. There’s a big pop feel on tracks like Disease again, with cut up vocals in the chorus and gorgeous melody which wouldn’t feel out of place on a chart hit and ADDICTIONZ  detuned, airy synth confidently breaks down into anthemic string and harp interplay, melding the two in a glorious way.

The pretty, synthesised accordion on signalmessanger mixes with shimmering strings, while she’s veiled is the most explicit take on this formula he’s created. It’s a surprise ending,  a yearning instrumental with a swooning melody, mixing piano, real violin played by Proc’s friend Finlay and wordless vocals deep in the mix, plus ‘‘fake’ strings bent with fx, which flutter like butterflies.
